This qualification is developed for all those SIA door supervisors who have done their qualification updated to the level of 1 April 2021. Once these SIA door supervisors have to renew their SIA door supervision licence they would be required to do this SIA Door Supervisor Refresher course which meets the regulators criteria for CPD and thus would enable to renew their SIA door supervision licence.

Structure of the SIA door supervisor refresher training course

The qualification is made up two units which includes Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher), Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) module. The need for this qualification was felt because all those learners having previous qualifications to refresh their skills after 3 years. Moreover First Aid training is compulsory before taking SIA door supervisor course and SIA refresher door supervisor and SIA Security Guard Refresher course.

Core Modules for the Qualification:

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

  • Know how to conduct effective search procedures
  • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
  • Know how to safeguard the public from incidents of spiking

Unit 2: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

  • Know the implications of physical interventions and their use
  • Know the risks associated with using physical intervention
  • Know how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention
  • Be able to proficiently and safely use physical skills to protect yourself and others
  • Be able to use non-pain compliant standing, holding and escorting techniques safely

Assessment

Centres must adhere to the conditions for delivery and assessment as listed in the SIA’s “Introduction to Learning Leading Towards Licence-linked Qualifications. Requirements for Awarding Organisations/Bodies and Training Providers” and the Centre Guides for Security Qualifications.

Assessment for first unit is (i) by practical demonstration which is audio video recorded by the centre and (ii)by externally set and marked 35 multiple choice question paper.

Assessment for Second unit is (i) by practical demonstration which is audio video recorded by the centre and (ii) by externally set and marked 30 multiple choice question paper.

Learner Entry Requirements

  • This qualification is a regulatory requirement for relevant SIA Door Supervisors therefore learners must have a SIA Door Supervisors SIA licence. It is the centre’s responsibility to check this and ensure that relevant records are available for audit purposes
  • Security operatives are likely in the course of their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services, or need to communicate to resolve conflict.  It is essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly.
